Treating Cedar Fever

Cedar Fever Meet Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

The wind-pollinated cedar (mountain juniper) trees are in full bloom compromising many of our respiratory systems this time of year.   The amount of cedar pollen in the air is a factor in whether cedar fever symptoms such as  sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, congestion, and difficulty breathing develop and how intense they can become.   Dry, windy days are more likely to have increased amounts of cedar pollen in the air than very cold, damp and rainy days when cedar pollen is washed to the ground.  However the alternating warm then cold days we often experience in Austin without long periods of freezing temperatures promotes the cedar pollen to grow and thrive in abundance – then the windy days carry it to our noses.

In TCM we view cedar fever as an overactive immune response due to an unbalanced immune system.  This can happen for several reasons, including poor diet and nutrition, and unhealthy lifestyle habits which can energetically weaken organ systems.  In TCM we treat the symptoms with acupuncture and herbal remedies and also get to the root of the cause to avoid future attacks and rebalance your immune system.

I offer natural remedies to build and regulate immunity, treat cedar fever symptoms and relieve the suffering cedar pollen can cause.  Make an appointment for your consultation and treatment today.  The cedar tree pollen count is generally highest from January through February and often continues into March when many other pollens began to blow.
